COCOA BEAN DOLPHIN STUDY”

This Giclee print measures 20 inches tall by 40 inches wide. This Giclee is printed on canvas.

This original study was one of my first coffee watercolors many years ago. Since, it has served my intended purpose as being a model for many other works as a starting point on my dolphin paintings, even when using oil paints.

That’s why, after all, it’s called a “study.”

This print only available on canvas. It is not printed on paper.

 “COFFEE STUDY”

This Giclee Gallery Wrap print is 20 inches tall by 40 inches wide.

This was one of my first paintings using coffee as my medium. This does carry a pretty cool story with it. Just after painting with coffee,

I went to the National Museum of Fine Arts to tell them how I was painting. The archivists seemed vastly interested, but, in quick order, warned me of using coffee as a medium. And that conclusion didn’t take long to assess.

They sternly warned me that they were horrified that the acid in the coffee would eat through the medium, and in quick order. It took forever to engineer a solution. But, then I did. (I offer a full description of the proper way to use coffee as a medium.)

I discovered the perfect solution after a thorough investigation. (Here’s a bold hint: I couldn’t have cared less how the coffee tasted.)

This print only available on canvas, It is not printed on paper.

“Sailfish in Cocoa Bean”

Image Size is 20-inches wide and 40-inches tall.

This too was one of my very first coffee originals. That said, I had every confidence this painting especially elegant.

The collector was another rather famous person. And, I feel confident it is still displayed in her dining room to this day!

I still love this coffee original as much as the day I painted it! It was painted just after my fishing trip to Guatemala with Jose’ Wejebe to film his television show.

This was my way of displaying the difference between Atlantic and Pacific Sailfish!

 “The Eye”

Image size of 20-inches wide by 40-inches tall.

When I was a young man I had the distinct pleasure of fishing off the Outer Banks often.

Then, there seemed nowhere with bigger marlin, many were weighed in over 900 pounds. It just seemed to be the norm.

Every marlin we caught then, seemed to have eyes that burned holes through my eyes.

I have no idea why the a marlin’s eye affected me like they did. It seemed like two events happening together, what the eyes did, and what the body did.

This print only available on paper, It is not printed on canvas.

“ELEGANT RETURN”

Image size is 40-inches wide, and 20-inches tall.

This sailfish coffee painting was for an art collection of a very good friend. I love this final result. This was the first time I had done a coffee painting since relaunching my career. This was exactly what I was aiming for. No pun intended.

The colors are strong, bold, and indicative of the best available assets when painting with coffee.

It’s rustic. And, I love it.

“ADOLESCENT BEHAVIOR”

This Giclee Gallery Wrap Print is 20 inches tall by 40 inches wide.

I did this painting to show the aggression of a young blue marlin, testing out all the other wildlife in the ocean.

So often, adolescent blue marlins remind me of when I was young while perceiving myself as being more powerful than I actually was.

I guess that trait runs through all males.

This print is only available as a Gallery-Wrap Giclee. It is not available on paper.

“ALPHA ~ OMEGA”

This Giclee print size is 20 inches wide by 40 inches tall.

The first time I saw this I was a child. I still find that split-second exhilarating. In me, that has never changed.

It’s that split-second the foam explodes underneath the water and covers the marlin like a massive blanket.

I don’t know why I find that so beautiful and amazing, but I do.

This Giclee is of that split-second.

Intelligent Design

“Intelligent Design”

The Giclee print is 20-tall,  by 40-inches wide.

I loved painting as much as I love presenting this Giclee print on canvas to collectors.  This is a significant section of a much larger painting that measured  6-feet, by 8-feet wide.

This is the first time ever that I’ve sectioned out a part of one of my originals for printing. But, I have a feeling, it won’t be my last.

This print is only available as a Gallery-Wrap Giclee printed on canvas. It is not available on paper.

“Keith’s Memories”

“KEITH’S MEMORIES”

Print Giclee on canvas is 20-inches tall by 40-inches wide.

This original is 9 inches tall by 20 inches wide painting was done on masonite board.

I did this painting to play around more with the oxygen when it’s pulled into the water by the fish. And, the way the sunlight plays on it.

One of my best friends wanted to collect this painting. And so he did. He died in a plane crash about a month later, I don’t really remember. So I switched the name from what it was to “Keith’s Memories.

“BENCHMARK”

This Giclee Gallery Wrap is 20 inches tall by 40 inches wide.

I believe every serious artist has benchmarks along their professional path. That might be accomplishing a unique technique, sometimes often enough to depend on it.

This was one of my benchmarks.

It marked the beginning of the third stage of my painting career because there ate a few elements that changed my abilities. They were unique skills I learned to change my style.

So, to me, this was truly was one of my benchmarks.

This print is only available as a Gallery-Wrap Giclee. It is not available on paper.

For over 20-years I’ve been either a professional offshore charter Captain who fished in tournaments, or I worked the pit as a professional mate. I’ve seen many species of fish in their natural settings, and thousands of times. I met Be in the early to mid 90’s and was immediately drawn to his artwork.

Be painted exactly what I had seen so many times. I was also taken back by how friendly and personable he was to me. Even to a youngster like  I was in those days. Be’s paintings have some of the most accurate physical details of any artist painting pelagic species, and his scene depictions are in a league all their own. His colors and physical features are extremely precise.

“UNWRITTEN LAW”

The print size is 20-inches tall by 40-inches wide.

One of my all-time favorite moments fishing offshore was when a huge marlin would jump from the back, out of waves that made heavy shadows in heavy seas.

I don’t know why I thought that was so absolutely beautiful. More beautiful than exciting.

It was like the dream bite from an incredible cake with the perfect balance between cake and the icing.

With that marlin were the dolphins. It was like watching a barroom fight and enjoying every minute of it.

It was the perfect harmony of mass confusion.

“CURRENT RIP”

The print size is 20-inches tall by 40-inches wide.

I decided that this original I wanted to push this an oil simple oil study into something more like art standing on its own merits.

This print is only available as a Gallery-Wrap Giclee. It is not available on paper.

“AKA Surrounded”

This Giclee is print size is 20-inches tall by 40-inches wide and painted on Canvas.

To begin my story, after I painted this original I took it directly to the Miami Boat Show. I had just finished painting and hadn’t had the opportunity to properly title the original.

A collector came into my booth and asked what was the name? I told him I hadn’t titled the painting because the only name I came up with wasn’t appropriate, “Deep S#!t” was the only title I could think of. He was highly amused and taken back by my straight-forward nature.

He laughed and stated if you title it that … and I’m going to own this in my art collection. I thought for a second and said, “I’ll meet you halfway. Let’s call it ‘AKA Surrounded.'” This painting is in his private art collection.

Take a second and look behind the Tuna and you’ll know why.

“VELA … VELA”

The print size is 20-inches tall by 40-inches wide and printed on canvas.

This image brings back some great memories. I was shooting a couple of ESPN shows on “Spanish Fly” with Jose Wejebe in Guatemala and saw so many fish that José started laughing about it during one of his interviews.

The sailfish were everywhere, literally. I could not miss a fish. I caught 28 sailfish in two days, and all but one was on a flyrod.

In Guatemala, Sailfish are called “Vela” … and trust me, that’s all the mate yelled the entire time we fished.

Painting this seemed like a natural progression for me to this painting, and call it, “Vela … Vela.”

This print is only available as a Gallery-Wrap Giclee. It is not available on paper.

“213”

This Giclee Gallery Wrap printed on canvas measures 40 inches wide by 20 inches tall.

I’ve never seen flying fish and been bored. They always entertained me.

I remember this day. I was concentrating on the Gannets at first. Then, the flying fish started just after. Then, the big blue one arrived. All of this was a chorus of screams. It was like clockwork.

Looking at flying fish has never bored me. It’s a way I often kill time.

I painted birds for most of my art career. I thought, “Why not? I mean, I already knew how to paint birds. And, marlin is just an oversized flying fish. Well, kinda. So, why not?
